Safer

I got the news a couple of days ago that my apartment building is now has historic building designation. I'm absolutely elated! This means they cannot knock it down to build ugly row housing. It's not completely safe from redevelopment but it's going to be pretty hard to get around the designation.

Originally, only the other block of apartments in the complex were going to receive historic designation and the building I live in was to just be listed. The city counsellors who spoke at the hearing were so eloquent in their speeches that they convinced the committee to protect the entire complex.

It's fantastic! The women that live in my building aren't going to lose their home now. The Manitoba Teacher's Pension Plan is going to have to find another way to make obscene amounts of money instead of putting people out of their homes and destroying a beautiful piece of history.

Take that greedy bastards!
